Clear Minds at Depth: Houston’s Technical Rebreather Authority

Normoxic Trimix is the essential gateway to technical diving. By replacing a portion of your breathing gas with Helium, you eliminate the "fog" of nitrogen narcosis and the risks of deep air diving. At Gulf Coast Scuba, we specialize in IANTD Normoxic Trimix training on the Hollis Prism 2 (P2) and Fathom Gemini, providing you with the clarity and safety needed to explore Houston’s favorite deep-water wrecks and caves.

Why Dive Trimix on a Rebreather?

  1. Cost Efficiency: While Helium is expensive, a CCR uses a fraction of the gas required for Open Circuit, making Trimix diving affordable.

  2. Reduced Gas Density: Helium is lighter than Nitrogen, significantly lowering your Work of Breathing (WOB)and reducing CO2 buildup at depth.

  3. Safety & Clarity: Maintain the same mental focus at 200 feet that you have at 30 feet.

Course Prerequisites & Requirements

To ensure student success, Gulf Coast Scuba maintains strict standards:

  • Experience: Minimum of 100 logged dives (30 deeper than 90ft).

  • CCR Proficiency: 50 hours on the specific unit (P2 or Gemini) used for the course.

  • Certification: IANTD Advanced EANx Diver (or equivalent) and CCR Air Diluent Decompression.

  • Equipment: A fully functional, serviced CCR with redundant monitoring and adequate bailout.

  • Q: How deep can I dive with IANTD Normoxic Trimix Plus? A: The IANTD Normoxic Trimix Plus certification allows divers to reach a maximum depth of 233 feet (70 meters) using breathing gases with a minimum of 18% oxygen.

  • Q: Why choose IANTD over other agencies for Trimix? A: IANTD offers the unique "Plus" ratings, which provide bridge certifications for deeper depths (like 70m) that other agencies typically require a full Hypoxic Trimix course to reach.

  • Q: Does Gulf Coast Scuba provide Helium in Houston? A: Yes, we provide custom technical gas blending, including high-purity Helium and Oxygen, at our climate-controlled Houston facility.
